L.A. – Death Valley NP – Las Vegas – Grand Canyon

In L.A. kamen wir frühmorgens um 5.15 Uhr am Flughafen an. Schnell hatten wir unser Auto abgeholt und fuhren ans Meer. Leider war das Wetter nicht so toll und wir sahen nichts ausser Dunst. Nach dem Frühstück entschieden wir die Universal Studios zu besuchen. So waren wir beschäftigt. Das Studio hat einiges zu bieten; Studiorundgang mit z.B. King Kong 3D Animation, Weisser Hai und vieles mehr. Ein bekannter Schauspieler ist uns leider nicht begegnet, aber wir waren an einem Set, wo Bones gedreht wurde! Empfehlenswert ist die neue „Bahn“ von Transformers. Zum Abschluss durfte natürlich die Darbietung Waterworld nicht fehlen. Wir wurden auch „pflotschnass“ und machten uns so auf zur Travellodge.

Von L.A. aus fuhren wir los Richtung Las Vegas. Vorher besuchten wir den Death Valley NP. Unglaublich schön und heiss blieb er uns in Erinnerung. Als wir am Abend beim Camping ankamen war es immer noch unglaubliche 35°C. Am Nachmittag war es um die 45°C! Das Schlafen war mühsam, aber wir konnten die Sterne super sehen. Tags darauf besuchten wir den Mosaique Canyon, zum Glück im Schatten, sowie die Dünen in der Mitte des NP. Im Norden des NP schauten wir uns noch das „Castle“ von aussen an, was aber nichts Besonderes war.

Am selben Tag erwartete uns Las Vegas. Genau, Vegas Baby!!! Zum Glück hatten wir uns in L.A. ein GPS gekauft, so war es etwas einfacher zu unserem Hotel zu finden. Der Verkehr ist einfach schlimm in Vegas. Wir fuhren direkt vors MGM Grand, nahmen unser Gepäck und das Auto wurde, wie im Film, weggefahren. Nach dem Einchecken genossen wir erst einmal das Nichts tun und das Internet im Hotelzimmer. Die drei Tage/Nächte in Las Vegas vergingen sehr schnell. Im Outlet im Süden von Las Vegas verbrachten wir 5 Stunden mit Shopping!!! Echt krass… Aber die Schuhe und Kleider sind nun mal viel günstiger als zuhause in der Schweiz. Danach genossen wir ein Highlight von Vegas: eine Show! Das MGM verfügt über ein eigenes Theater. Wir sahen uns KA vom Cirque du Soleil an. Ein geniales Erlebnis! Die Darsteller waren unglaublich und die Bühne liess sich in alle Richtungen drehen. Den berühmten Strip schauten wir uns auch an, ein spezieller Ort und immer etwas los. Beeindruckend schön war die Wassershow vor dem Bellagio. Bei New York New York gönnten wir uns eine Fahrt mit der Achterbahn. Ein lustiges Erlebnis und tolle Aussicht auf den Strip. Die ganze Stadt ist aber auch ein wenig fragwürdig, so Mitten in der Wüste taucht sie auf und ansonsten ist ringsrum nichts!

Von Las Vegas aus besuchten wir den Hoover Dam. Auf der neuen Brücke (seit 2010 und von Sika mitgebaut) hatten wir eine gute Sicht auf den Dam. Zudem kann man auf einem der Aussichtpunkte auch auf den Lake Mead sehen. Unglaublich faszinierend!

Direkt fuhren wir weiter zum Grand Canyon. Wir besuchten mit dem Shuttlebus diverse Aussichtspunkte zum Canyon. Zum Teil wanderten wir auch Strecken und stiegen später wieder in den Bus ein. Das ganze Dorf und die Umgebung mit Shop und Bussen sind zwar sehr touristisch, aber auch sehr gut organisiert. Ohne den Shuttlebus wäre dieser Ort das reinste Chaos von Autos und Menschen. Am nächsten Tag wanderten wir noch den Kaibab Trail hinunter Richtung Colorado River. Ganz zum Fluss an einem Tag ist nicht möglich zu laufen, aber eine Stunde runter und dann zwei wieder herauf genügte uns auch.

Jetzt warten noch die vielen anderen National Parks, Monuments und vieles weitere auf uns!!!

In LA we arrived early in the morning at 5:15 clock at the airport. Soon we had picked up our car and drove to the sea. Unfortunately the weather was not great and we saw nothing but mist. After breakfast we decided to visit the Universal Studios. So we were busy. The studio has a lot to offer; the studio tour with such stuff as King Kong 3D animation, white shark and much more. A well-known actor we didn’t met, but we were on a set where Bones was turned! Recommended is the new ride of Transformers. At the end we would not be missing the performance Waterworld. We were really wet afterwards and went then to our motel.

By L. A. we drove to Las Vegas. But before we went there, we visited the Death Valley National Park. Incredibly nice and hot, it stayed in our memories. When we arrived at night for camping, it was still an incredible 35 ° C. In the afternoon, it was around 45 ° C! Sleeping was difficult, but we could see the stars superb. The next day we visited the Mosaique Canyon, thankfully in the shade, and the dunes in the middle of the NP. In the north of the NP, we looked even the Castle from the outside, but this was nothing special.

The same day, Las Vegas was waiting for us. Yeah, Vegas Baby! Luckily we had bought a GPS, so it was somewhat easier to find our hotel. The traffic is just awful in Vegas. We drove directly in front of MGM Grand, took our luggage and the car was driven away like in the movie. After checking in, we enjoyed the first day to do nothing and enjoy the Internet in the hotel room. The three days / nights in Las Vegas went by very quickly. At the outlet in the south of Las Vegas we spent 5 hours shopping! Really crude ... But the shoes and clothes are now much cheaper than at home in Switzerland. Afterwards we enjoyed a highlight of Vegas: a show! The MGM has a private theater. We watched KA by Cirque du Soleil. A brilliant experience! The cast was amazing and the stage can leave in any direction. The famous Strip, we looked at also, a special place and always something going on. The water show in front of the Bellagio was pretty impressive. In New York, New York, we treated ourselves to a ride on the roller coaster. A funny experience and great view of the Strip. The whole city is also a little questionable, so the middle of the desert and otherwise there is nothing!

After Las Vegas, we visited the Hoover Dam. (Built since 2010, also by Sika) on the new bridge, we had a good view of the Dam. In addition, you can see on one of the lookout points on Lake Mead. Incredibly fascinating!

Directly, we drove to the Grand Canyon. We visited it with the shuttle from various viewpoints of the canyon. In some cases we also hiked trails and climbed into the bus again later. The whole village and the surrounding area with shop and buses are very touristy, but also very well organized. Without the shuttle, this place would be a mess of cars. The next day we hiked the Kaibab Trail. Quite to the river in one day is not possible to run, but an hour and then down two up again was enough for us too.

Now the many others national parks, monuments and much more are waiting for us!
